Alessandra Malito is the technology reporter at InvestmentNews. She covers advisor-facing software and hardware, social media, websites and other online services, and emerging technologies such as robo-advisors and data aggregation.
Alessandra started working for professional publications when she was 15 years old at a local community paper. She received her Bachelor’s from SUNY Stony Brook in May 2013 and her Master’s, with a concentration in business journalism, from CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in December 2014.
The summer before graduation from grad school she was an intern at InvestmentNews. Her byline has also been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times Lens blog, NBCNews.com and Newsday.com. She’s currently taking continuing education classes for a Certificate in Finance and Accounting. Maria brings more than 30 years of experience to her role as founder and trusted consultative coach at Elevating Your Business. She is regarded for her sensible, insightful, forward thinking strategic marketing and business advice grounded in practical best business practices. As a trusted business consultant and executive coach, she provides 1 to 1 and/or group consulting, coaching and courses for global advisors.
Maria is an unstoppable business owner, having started her first of three businesses at age 14. She landing at Merrill Lynch as a dividend clerk working with the computer department to automate processes. Moving to the bond department at Reynolds Securities, she increased the efficiency of her boring clerical job; eliminating the need for three positions -- including her own! She was promoted to the municipal bond desk as a clerk, to junior trader, and then to retail trader, working to improve the sales of registered representatives in 5 branch offices. She moved to Dean Witter Reynolds during a merger, but found the cultural changes of a big shop not to her liking.
Maria jumped at the chance to be Bear Stearns first retail liaison where she was tasked with improving retail sales of 300+ registered reps . She did this by creating a variety of marketing processes, speaking to the sales offices, and eventually writing an Operations Sales Manual to help advisors increase bond sales. She became the go-to person to resolve the departments trade issues, improve marketing, and streamline operations, creating processes and procedures that were used firm-wide and saved millions of dollars.
